February 06, 2025 – VfL Wolfsburg has underpinned its sustainable focus with the “We for tomorrow” report, further strengthening its commitment to social, environmental and economic responsibility.
The club’s seventh sustainability report focuses on key topics such as equal opportunities, fairness and integrity – values that also include support for the “Sports Free” campaign.
The report, which covers the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 seasons, shows VfL Wolfsburg’s progress and challenges in the area of sustainability. The club goes beyond traditional ecological measures and emphasizes the importance of social responsibility in professional football.
In addition to projects such as “From the field to the fan store”, which supports small farmers in India in switching to sustainable cotton cultivation, the focus is also on “Sports Free – Coming out in professional sports”.
Diversity and authenticity are essential for an open football culture, explains Marcus Urban, co-founder of Diversero. The fact that VfL Wolfsburg anchors “Sports Free” in its sustainability report shows that the club not only communicates these values, but actively lives them.
This recognition makes “Sports Free” visible as an important part of VfL Wolfsburg’s social responsibility – a strong signal for the entire football world. The club is once again proving that it uses its reach to actively shape social change and support queer athletes.
