November 19, 2024 – VfB Stuttgart is setting a strong example for diversity and authenticity in soccer. Not only Alexander Wehrle, who sets a good example as the club’s out CEO, but also many other people at VfB met us with great openness and self-confidence.
As part of our film series on coming out in professional sport, Alexander Wehrle gave a moving interview. In it, he describes how his time as a paramedic shaped him – an experience that made it clear to him how important it is to live life authentically and approachably. This attitude not only shapes him personally, but also radiates to the entire club and its environment.
“VfB Stuttgart shows that self-confident and open cooperation is a win-win situation for everyone,” explains Marcus Urban, co-founder of Diversero. “This support is a strong signal for soccer and society and encourages us on the path to greater visibility for queer athletes.”
A big thank you goes to Stuttgart – to the “Ländle” and far beyond. VfB proves that real change is possible in professional soccer when people take courageous action.
