1. FC Heidenheim 1846 commits to “Sports Free” for queer athletes in professional sports

December 16, 2024 – 1. FC Heidenheim 1846, a club with an impressive history of promotion from the Oberliga to European football, joined Diversero’s “Sports Free” campaign.

Since its promotion from the Baden-Württemberg Oberliga to the Bundesliga, FCH has made history under the longstanding leadership of coach Frank Schmidt.

In the 2024/2025 season, the club is now even playing in European competition against top clubs such as Chelsea London. This extraordinary success story is now being complimented by a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion in football.

“We are delighted to announce today that 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 e.V. is a supporter of ‘Sports Free’,” the club announced in an official statement. This commitment shows that the FCH not only assumes responsibility in sports, but also in society.

“1. FC Heidenheim is an outstanding example of how clubs can achieve great things with passion, commitment and courage both on and off the pitch,” explains Marcus Urban, co-founder of Diversero. “Supporting a club with such an inspiring history is a great honor for ‘Sports Free’ and a strong signal for the football community.”

The decision of 1. FC Heidenheim to become part of “Sports Free” shows that even smaller clubs with big ambitions can play a central role in promoting diversity and acceptance in football. The FCH proves that social commitment and sporting success go hand in hand.

Diversero warmly welcomes 1. FC Heidenheim 1846 and its fans, employees, coaches and players. This commitment is another step towards a more inclusive and diverse football world – and confirmation that change is possible when clubs take responsibility.
